Reporting from the frontlines, I am seeing more and more business take hits in the war against malware and viruses. It's taking a toll on people just trying to survive the current economic downturn.
So what can you do to protect yourself? Here are a few tips that should help:
1. Be suspicious. Unfortunately, the days of trusting your computer are over. Be suspicious of everything that looks different, that's not from a trusted source, or that just sounds too good to be true.
2. Be prepared. This is nothing new, but make sure you have your Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, and Firewall on and more importantly, up-to-date.
3. Spend money on defense. It may cost you more upfront, but software and hardware that protect your network can save you a lot of money in the long run.
4. Have the right partner. There are steps that your IT partner can take that can help lock your network down and protect your business and your assets.
Don't get caught unprotected. Take a proactive approach to defense and you should come out of this war with much less pain.
